Loving the Airvape XS
Every few months a vape lands on our desk and we just think: why has no one made them this shape before? It seems so obvious now. The AirVape XS is one of them.
The XS is the updated and remodeled AirVape from Apollo Vaporizer Inc. While the basic shape and form is similar to the original, the XS is nearly a third smaller (hence its name- Xtra Small) – the original was wider and longer.
Other significant changes include a battery that has been souped-up (from 1100 mAh to 1300 mAh), the pre-set timer is now adjustable, the screen is twice as large and vibration alerts have been added. In short, it’s very much improved.
Opening the Box
The Airmax XS comes in mystic grey, midnight blue, rose or red gold steel shells. It arrives out of the box with a USB charger cable and wall mount, cleaning and packing tools, filter screens, a spare rubber mouthpiece cover, basic user manual and a leather carry case.
Form Factor Fabulous
The ‘wow’ moment comes when you take it out and realize just how slim slimline can be – less than half an inch (1.2 cm) flat, and weighing just 3.2 oz (90 grams).
It feels solid and well-built, and before even charging it, I can’t resist slipping it into my jeans back pocket, then shirt pocket. It’s barely noticeable, a new level of portability.
I forgot to time how long it took for its initial charge; I imagine pretty quick, given that subsequent charges via micro USB took only an hour. The AirVape XS can also be used while charging (if battery not depleted).
Packing the oven
A sloping recessed edge allows easy, mess-free filling of the oval ceramic oven (original was stainless steel). Fine ground herb is recommended, and around 0.2 grams can be accommodated by what is – again – a surprisingly large oven.
Really, the new XS is like the TARDIS of vapes, the level of functionality it packs into its tiny shell.

Low tech mouthpiece A rubber stopper plugs the oven; a short-but-wide glass stem connects to that, and another (medical grade) rubber mouthpiece fits on the end (the original was plastic). It’s simple and low tech, and works very well.
Combined with the Dual Filter, 3 AirFlow ventilation around the chamber (making the device slightly wider at the top) and EZ (Isolated) AirPath, the XS delivers exceptionally cool and tasty vapor for its size.
Easy turn on, heats fast
A centered on-off button is pressed 3x rapidly to fire it up, while either side of it are two ↑↓ buttons give easy temperature control.
With a range of 200 F- 428 F (93-220 C), the new battery enables the Airvape XS to achieve fast and excellent heating – barely 20 Seconds to Optimal Level, with a subtle vibrate when ready (also new in the XS).
The oval shaped ceramic chamber, plus the compartment underneath that accumulates hot air creates a combination of conduction and convection for fast, even heating of herb.

Good interface screen
For such a small device, a 1.3 inch screen feels like a luxury. It elegantly and clearly displays battery level, temperature, and time left before Automatic Shutoff.
Available accessories not shipped with the device include a slim, card-sized 2500 mAh power pack for on-the-go battery top-ups, a charging dock and a concentrates cup.
